Arsenal
first-choice goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny, has expressed his hope of making his
first FA Cup appearance of this season, when they play Hull City in the final
of the competition.
Arsene
Wenger has preferred Szczesny’s compatriot Lukasz Fabianski, as the Gunners
progressed all the way to the final and was the hero in the semi-final win over
Wigan, saving two penalties in a shoot-out that ensued after 120 minutes.
However,
Szczesny is desperate to line up against the Tigers at Wembley next month, as
they seek to end their nine-year trophy wait on May 17.
“I would love to play but it’s the manager’s decision. It’s up to him,” Szczesny
told reporters.
“I
think Lukasz has done really well and he deserves a lot of credit. I’m an
Arsenal fan and I just want us to get the trophy.
“For
us, it’s important to get a trophy and hopefully we can appease everyone at the
club.”
After
helping Arsenal overcome Wigan, Fabianski said he would “definitely be
disappointed” if he was overlooked for the final.
