The Custodian April 19, 2014
Super
Eagles Efe Ambrose, has said that Nigeria has players who can stop Lionel Messi
and his team-mates, when both teams meet in their last Group F game of the 2014
World Cup.
Ambrose,
who is mostly deployed at right-back by coach Stephen Keshi, has come up
against the Argentine maestro when Celtic played against Barcelona in the UEFA
Champions League and is confident that he can be contained.
“It
makes no difference; it is the same player whether for club or country. Nigeria
have a lot of good defenders who can stop Messi and any other striker in the
world,” Ambrose told Africanfootball.com.
He also refused to predict how far the Eagles will go in the competition, but
stated that he was optimistic about their chances.
“I
can’t say precisely, but by God’s grace we will do well and take it game by
game, then we will see where it would take us,” he concluded.
