The
Rivers State House of Assembly has described the opposition to the N50billion
loan approved for the Executive as an act of ignorance.
The
Deputy Speaker, Hon. Leyii Kwanee stated this while reacting to allegation by
the lawmaker representing Ogu/bolo constituency, Hon Evans Bipi that the loan
is a huge debt to incoming administration in the State.
He
told Source that “You will recall that all of these issues were raised some
time ago and we have to summoned the Commissioner of Finance to give a detailed
explanation as to how all of these facilities will be handled, he had told us
that the earlier money that was borrowed will be paid off some time this year
and most of these loans are tied to our internally generated revenue, it is
never a burden to the people of the State, I dont think so” he said.
Hon. Leyii Kwanee also insisted that the Rivers State House of Assembly was
satisfied with the State government’s usage of the loans approved to it in
improving the lives and facilities in the State.
”This
facility is part of the budget plan. There are specific items that are spelt
out in the budget and the money will be spent accordingly, if you were in the
House yesterday, you will also remember when my colleague from Abua/ odual
raised the issue of Odual road. these monies are needed to fast-track all these
developments going on in the State.
“APC
is not owned by just the Governor Rotimi Amaechi-led government. APC cuts
across the whole length and breadth of our country Nigeria, so it is not a call
to Rivers State to start funding APC ” he explained.
Bipi,
who leads four other anti-Ameachi lawmakers in the House had criticised the
incessant approval of loans by the Assembly for the Executive, saying it would
amount to leaving huge debts for incoming administration.
