Some
aggrieved members of the Rivers State Chapter of the All Progressives Congress,
APC, have held a parallel ward and local government congress to protest alleged
injustice and discrimination in the party.
The
aggrieved APC members, who emerged from Legacy party, said they demanded for
ten percent membership into positions at the ward, local government and state
congresses of the APC.
Leader
of the aggrieved members, Mmuen Kpagane expressed displeasure at the manner in
which the Governor, Rotimi Amaechi and other leaders are allegedly
discriminating against members of the Legacy party.
According to the statement made available by the Legacy group, the former
members of ACN, ANPP and CPC popularly refer to as Legacy parties within the
APC said, “we demand that as this congresses are going on members of the Legacy
parties should be made Chairman or Secretary during the congress.
“But
since they have refused to consider our plea, we have conducted our own ward
and Local government congresses”.
Kpagane
also warned that if the decision to include members of the legacy party in the
state is not honoured, they will not hesitate to hold their own congress next
week.
“We
are saying if these wrongs done to us are not corrected, we will also conduct
our own parallel State congress to let the Governor know our grievances”,
Kpagane warned.
