The Custodian April 12, 2014
The
people of Ogoni have lauded the leader of the Niger-Delta Volunteer Force and
ex-Niger Delta agitator, Alhaji Mujaheed Asari Dokubo for his position on who
should be the next governor of Rivers State.
Dokubo
had in a media publication condemned the nomination of Nyesom Wike by the First
Lady, Patience Jonathan noting that Rivers people have been unfair to the Ogoni
guber ambition.
An
attempt to make supervising Minister of Education, Nyesom Wike the next
governor of the state, Dokubo warned, would not only affect the political
fortune of President Goodluck Jonathan but also the
chances of the Peoples Democratic Part, PDP, in the state.

He
said the plan by the first lady to impose Wike on the people was morally wrong
in the light of the dominance of the political
landscape of the state by the Ikwerre group in the past 16 years, to which Wike belongs.

He
said an Ikwerre man had no business in Rivers Government House in 2015, adding
that it would amount to political suicide for PDP to field Wike in the next
election.
Coordinator
of the Ogoni Solidarity Forum, Celestine Akpobari said Asari’s comment has
justified the course of the Ogoni people to lead Rivers State in 2015.
Akpobari
also said the Ogoni people have been marginalized for too long.
He
said Ogoni has never been Speaker of the state House of Assembly, Chief Judge
of the state, or Deputy Governor.
Also, former aspirant for the Rivers State House of Assembly, Bariledum Famaa
noted that the Ogoni people will not allow continuous neglect, adding that
Asari Dokubo has shown good example of statesmanship.
