The Custodian April 12, 2014
Members
of the striking Academic Staff Union of Polytechnic, ASUP, have vowed to stage
a “massive protest” in Abuja, over the federal government’s inability to come
to term with their demands.
According
to ASUP President, Chibuzor Asomugha, the move became imperative as the federal
government never showed interest in resolving the wrangling.
Asomugha,
while speaking on a radio programme on Ray Power FM, Friday said the
government’s delegation during their last meeting promised to brief President
Goodluck Jonathan on the development and come up with a ‘Memorandum of
Understanding’ to be signed by the two parties but nothing has been said to
that effect.
The union leader who did not give an actual date for the protest, said market
women, students, lecturers, labour unions and other concerned citizens would be
involved.
He
said the government’s “No work, No pay policy” would not stop them from
fighting for their rights.
Asomugha
further added that the lecturers’ salaries for March 2014 had not been paid
following the “no work, no pay rule” imposed on then by the government since
March 21.
