Arsenal
are through to the FA Cup final, after defeating holders Wigan on penalties.
The
Gunners, who have not won silverware in nine years, went behind in the second
half against the run of player, after Per Mertesacker was adjudged to bring
down Callum McManaman. Jordi Gomez stepped up and put the Lactics one goal up.
It
was Mertesacker who levelled for Arsene Wenger’s men, with a close-range
header, which forced the game to extra time. There were no goals in that
period, before Michael Oliver signalled the end of 120 minutes.
Lukasz Fabianski was the hero, as he saved two spot-kicks from Gary Caldwell
and Jack Collison, to ensure Arsenal are on course to end their trophy drought.
